Sheamus defends Goldberg's latest WWE run

Sheamus has defended Bill Goldberg’s latest return to the WWE main event scene, saying the legend’s match with Drew McIntyre could be “interesting.”

Goldberg once again returned to the squared circle and crashed straight into the title picture, with the former WCW great set to challenge for McIntyre’s WWE title.

The two will clash at Royal Rumble at the end of January, with many wrestling fans less than happy that the megastar is once again enjoying a cameo at the top of the company.

That’s largely due to less-than-stellar showings by the veteran in matches during 2019 and 2020.

Sheamus, though, fancies that a match-up with Goldberg might just work in McIntyre’s favour – though hinted he feels the Champ should ultimately come out on top.

“It seems like a lot of people are angry about it,” he told WWE’s The Bump.

“I know some who think Bill Goldberg doesn’t deserve an opportunity against Drew." - Sheamus

"But Goldberg definitely made an impression back in WCW when he first came out. I mean, he brought this new element, you know, destroying people in a short amount of time, and the streak.

“He’s also a multi-time world champion, and he does keep himself in great shape.

"I don’t think this is going to be a bad match for Drew. I think it’s another opportunity for Drew to cement his legacy by going in against people like Goldberg and ultimately beating them.

"Maybe he can go in there and take him out pretty fast; it’ll be interesting to see.”
