William Regal's son signs with WWE

WWE have signed another British prodigy to their ranks in Bailey Matthews – the son of the legendary wrestler William Regal.

Matthews is one of four new recruits confirmed as signed to WWE’s NXT UK brand, whose weekly show airs from the UK each week to a global audience.

The starlet, who has been wrestling on the independent scene and in Japan, will look to follow in the footsteps of his father, real name Darren Matthews, who is currently still performing in WWE as the General Manager of NXT.

Regal is a former WWE Intercontinental, Tag Team and European Champion who wrestled for some three decades all around the world before retiring.

It’s expected at the very least that Bailey, one of Regal’s three children, is set to offer a similar in-ring style to his father, with WWE adding he would “bring a unique style to NXT UK inspired by the likes of Johnny Saint, Billy Robinson and NXT General Manager William Regal.”

The latest arrivals to NXT UK continue to make the show one of WWE’s most diverse brands – joining Matthew is Anglo Brit Tony Gill, who was born in Australia before moving to Canada.

Also signing up with WWE is 27-year-old Metehan Kocabasoglu. The German star of Turkish heritage already has 13 years’ experience wrestling all across Europe, with battles against the likes of current NXT UK Champion WALTER.

Also confirmed as signed by NXT UK is Meiko Satomura, the Japanese sensation and former PROGRESS World Champion who is regarded as one of the finest performers in the world.

The relative veteran is thought to be combining an on-air role with coaching duties backstage.

WWE NXT UK airs each week on BT Sport, Paramount and Channel 5 – for full details visit wwe.com
